Sponsor a Native Plant Today!
join us in the effort to restore walker basin!
The Walker Basin Conservancy is working to restore native habitat on thousands of acres of land along the Walker River. Our team has been working for over a year to collect native seeds in the Walker Basin and cultivate them into shrubs and forbs (wildflowers), genetically adapted to survive in the very dry climate. After one to two years of growth in a nursery, the plants are ready to be transferred into fields we are restoring to establish wildlife habitat.
We are so excited to get these native plants in the ground! Throughout October, 50 staff and AmeriCorps members in our restoration crew will plant 8,000 shrubs across over 100 acres! This isn’t a Saturday afternoon in the garden…
It’s a PLANT-A-THON!
Normally, we would want to welcome everyone to come and plant with us. We aren’t able to do that this year but
YOU CAN STILL HAVE AN EXPONENTIAL IMPACT!
Sponsor a native plant for just $5!
The Problem: There is a huge shortage of native seeds across the Great Basin. The problem has become even more acute in recent years has more lands have been affected by wildfires and are in need of restoration. Restoring lands with native plants has several important benefits including wildfire resilience, reducing invasive species and providing appropriate habitat for local wildlife.
How Sponsorship makes a difference: Proceeds will be invested into native seed and plant production infrastructure, increasing the Conservancy’s capacity to meet its restoration needs in the Walker Basin and assist restoration efforts throughout the Great Basin!
