Statement on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The Walker Basin Conservancy’s success and impact depend on learning from each other and the community where we work, live, and recreate. A diverse, equitable, and inclusive organization welcoming to all people is paramount to our team and mission. Our diversity, equity, and inclusion committee will guide organizational progress and identify strategies which recognize diversity as vital to success. These principles chart our path forward as the Conservancy works to restore and maintain Walker Lake, improve area habitat, and provide value to Walker Basin communities.
Land Acknowledgment
The Walker Basin Conservancy works on land and water that are on the homelands of the Agai Di’Cutta and Agai Tabusi (Trout and Tabusi Eaters, or Walker River Paiute and Yerington Paiute Tribes). The Walker River has sustained vibrant agricultural communities in the basin since time immemorial.
Our mission restores balance to the ecological and agricultural needs of the region. Our success, and the restoration of Walker Lake, depends on continued dialogue and learning. We create space for cross-cultural dialogue and actively work to find common ground. We continuously improve ourselves, our programs, and our environment.
We proudly support a diverse and inclusive workforce in our rural communities and actively work to bring more perspectives and experiences to our project. We invite people of all backgrounds, identity, experiences, and politics to contribute to one of the most ambitious restoration projects in North America: saving Walker Lake.
The Conservancy believes that all people deserve access to reliable water supplies and public lands. We actively work to increase public access to the region’s rich landscapes and bring life to the collapsing ecosystem of Walker Lake.
